Description |
1860 -Bridesmaid dress, two piece made of cheesecloth, panel of gathers of cheesecloth alternating with blue satin inset stripes. Whole bodice is lined with light weigh. Back opening has 11 buttons of alternating size. Cotton muslin waist band, hidden by the skirt. 3/4 length sleeves edged with leaf pattern lace - 26 inch waist line - separating sleeve and bodice is lace under a blue stripe. Skirt - very full - center back opening with one hook and eye opening, probably used a hoop under. Upper 2/3 of skirt are same gatherings of cheesecloth that widen. They go to the hem separated by the same blue satin stripe. Four bottom rolls go horizontally, pouf of cheesecloth over blue satin bands. There is a train, entire skirt is lined with net. Sash is 2 1/2" wide of blue satin that fastens in the back. There is a blue satin rosette at top. Two panels (blue satin) come to a point edged with lace. Blue silk tassel with 2 pearls dangling from in. Petticoat center back opening with 2 hook and eye fasteners gathered at the back (probably wore a bustle), at tuck near the hem of the petticoat. |
